O'Grady is well known amongst the squash fraternity having been involved at a number of levels from Grassroots/Club through to the National level. His background includes roles as a player, coach, event organiser and administrator.
“A key component of driving a successful organisation is to have a solid connection with everyone involved. I believe this is one of my strengths and will provide a level of integrity that will build strong and lasting relationships” says O'Grady.
Holding district and club liaison positions, as well as President and Chairman Positions in Canterbury, and New Zealand, O'Grady has a wealth of knowledge and networks in the squash community. Most recently O'Grady held the position of Chairman, Squash New Zealand.
O'Grady sees his broad experience in squash and strong networks as integral to helping the national organisation grow and better serve its members.
Squash NZ, in conjunction with the playing community, has developed a strategic plan and vision for the coming years, and the key focus for the CEO will be taking a leading role in the implementation of this plan. O'Grady brings a steady hand to squash and a commitment to the vision of a ‘transformed, viable and growing sport in New Zealand'.
A comprehensive recruitment process was undertaken by Squash New Zealand. A number of independents were involved from within and outside of the squash community contributing to a robust and transparent selection process. “The Board of Squash New Zealand believes that squash needs a guiding hand to bring the sport closer together and consolidate the achievements to date and feel that Jim has the knowledge and support to make this happen” says Squash NZ Board member Toni-Maree Carnie. Most recently O'Grady has held the commercial positions as Operations Manager mouldCAM NZ Ltd and prior to that Cresta Composites Factory Manager.
O'Grady takes up the Squash New Zealand Chief Executive position from November 30th.
