This newsletter - Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Revisited - SEO is the largest frequently asked question in our help emails and one that is still not that well understood by many web site owners.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Revisited

Having a great web site is one part of the equation to being successful online - build it and they will come may work for large shopping malls but not really on the web where you have potentially many thousands of competitors.

Having a poor SEO'd web site is like having a retail shop full of wares but the door always locked – what's the point...?

Getting lots of good targeted visitors to your web site is what SEO is all about - and without cost...

More visitors to your web site equal more sales - and the costs are only a small amount of time spent tweaking the web site over time.

SEO is so easy to test and measure too - once you have Google Analytics installed on your web site you can add new content - or tweak any existing pages and then a period of time later see how those changes have effected your web site.

The biggest misconception we get about online projects is we are asked to minimise the amount of content - the request often is "I only need a five page web site" says a potential customer.

For some time now the "best practice" with SEO is to have a single web page within your web site optimised for a single search term.

So "Rotorua Motel" needs a separate page then "Bay of Plenty Accommodation" on the same web site.

This also means that you can't have too much content on your web site - and why we don't charge on a "per page" basis for our projects.

Another key part to great SEO is ensuring that you have lots of well crafted links to your web pages from other web sites on the web.

A well crafted link doesn't just state your domain name as a link but uses the key phrase you'd like to be ranked well for - so the examples above could have a link from a web site with the words "Rotorua Motel" and "Bay of Plenty Accommodation" as the link.

E.g. Our Bay of Plenty Accommodation offers a truly unique stay in our Rotorua Motel - close to the city center and in-house entertainment.

We've gone over some of the other important aspects before - back to the basics - SEO - and it would be worth to revisit that Newsletter to get some more background.

We have various web sites that we use to help our customers rank well for their chosen key phrases - contact us for more help and a quick review of your web site.

A wedding caterer could use them for prospective customer once per week to run through their full service list with example photos of layouts and options for that special day.

A bed and breakfast operator could host a Webinar with a walk though of the rooms available as well as some ideas of local sights and places to visit.

A professional services consultant could use the Webinar to give some tips and hints about improving their customer's bottom line.

If a new client visited your web site they could register online for the upcoming Webinar easily and quickly.

If a potential new client contacts you during the week then let them know the Webinar will be available - it's a great way of getting engagement in an interactive way.
