8 Excuses I've heard for you not blogging - and why you should ignore them and blog anyway...

Everyone in business wants more business - or more to put more succinctly they want better customers.

Perhaps it's those that purchase regularly - or those that are happy to pay extra for dealing with the very best in your industry (i.e you…!)

Doing better in business with the same resources as now is really attractive…

Failing to take absolutely full advantage of your knowledge and experience would be a shame - and may cost you your best customers - and even worse hand any new customers to your competitors.

Getting better results from your web site is only part of the outcomes of using blogs well - they also help position yourself and your team as the leading knowledge experts in your field.

A good blog can lead to being invited to do seminar speaking, be on industry working groups, be interviewed by media through to magazine writing and even book deals…

So let's look at the 8 excuses that I've been giving as to why you are not blogging...

1 - Don't know what to say?

No one lives in a vacuum - you interact with friends & family as well as co-workers, suppliers and customers…

There are lots of seemingly everyday conversations that can form the basis of content of a blog post - I'm sure you keep up to date with what your peers in your industry are doing - as well as keeping an eye on your competitors - what's hot at the moment..? What was hot but now it not…? What's the nest big thing that's about to happen in your business that has you excited…?

All of the answers to those questions would make really good reading - and here's a final tip on content - find someone else great content - point to that content and tell everyone why it's important to your industry or earth shattering for your business

2 - Who would read it…?

The short answer is - all of your existing customers and all of your potential customers. All your friends, family and members of the clubs that you belong to

The longer answer is that everyone could read your blog - so don't let that stop you - what would you like to say to those people in your life that you can't articulate in person…?

I often thing of something really witty and funny - about 10 minutes after I could have used it - a blog lets you think about the best way to describe something even after the event.

Write like your next biggest customer is going to read the blog - add items that you care about as your spouse and life partner will read your blog too…

People buy from people - having a blog is about being a real person and showing that you are real.

3 - I can't right…!

Modern blog tools come with spell checkers - but not often with logic checkers.

One of the best ways to get into blogging and improve your spelling is to use a good word processing tool with a built in thesaurus.

Create your posts in that - check the spelling and grammar and then cut and paste the content into your blogging tool.

4 - But Blogs don't work

Look around the blogosphere - there are numerous examples of blogs that work

5 - My Customers don't have time to sit in front of the computer

Your customers are always looking for a better deal - if it's not you that's giving that to them then they are out getting wooed by another provider.

The latest blogging tools can be integrated into your web site and also set up to be delivered into your customers email boxes.

We also have a number of strategies to remind people that you have a blog - and to get them back again and again - ask us for some ideas…

6 - You can say anything in blogs so people don't believe them

Remember Kryptonite Locks…? A single person blogged how these expensive bicycle locks could be unlocked with a broken ball point pen. The company ignored the post and lost 75% of their sales within a very short time.

In this case the blog post was true - what the company did wrong was not engage with the problem to quickly find a solution…

Most blogs allow a "right of reply" in the form of a comment mechanism added to every post. If you do find something that is blatantly incorrect then use comments to put it right.

And respect those that set you on the correct track if someone knows better - although having said all that you may need to agree to disagree in some cases…

7 - I don't know how

That's one the easiest excuses to overcome - there's lots of resources available on the web to help including some great help resources in each of the blogging tools.

And we are here to help with integrating the blog into your web site too.

8 - I don't have time

We all have the same amount of time in the week - it's just how we choose to use the time available to us that counts.

If you are slow at the moment now is the time to invest in learning something new…

Here are a few ideas how you could use Webinars:

A wedding caterer could use them for prospective customer once per week to run through their full service list with example photos of layouts and options for that special day.

A bed and breakfast operator could host a Webinar with a walk though of the rooms available as well as some ideas of local sights and places to visit.

A professional services consultant could use the Webinar to give some tips and hints about improving their customer's bottom line.

If a new client visited your web site they could register online for the upcoming Webinar easily and quickly.

If a potential new client contacts you during the week then let them know the Webinar will be available - it's a great way of getting engagement in an interactive way.

We have training webinars on alternate Tuesdays to the newsletter so they next one at 9:30am on Tuesday 9th June.

We'll also be taking notes about what you are asking - and will look to improve the process - if there's a better way of achieving the end results - lets all work towards it...!

So do please make the time - we'll try and have these free webinars every two weeks (except where I end up having travel commitments - but I'll be training up the guys to take my place) - and we'll also look at having one after hours every so often - so let us know if you are keen - but can't make it to the 9:30 am webinars.
